Zoom Real-Time Media Streams (RTMS) lets Conversation Intelligence record Zoom meetings without a bot joining the call. Use this guide to allow apps to receive meeting content in Zoom and to decide whether the Conversation Intelligence app starts automatically.
After completing this guide, you will be able to:
- Turn on the Zoom setting that lets apps receive real-time meeting content for your account.
- Limit the setting to specific Zoom users or groups.
- Set the Conversation Intelligence app to start automatically in your team's Zoom meetings. [CONFIRM: see the auto-start note in Step 5.]
Things to Note: RTMS replaces the recording bot for Zoom. Organizations that record Zoom meetings with the bot today move to RTMS by default October 31.
In this article:
Before starting, make sure you have the following:
- Permission / Role: Zoom admin rights for Account Settings in the Zoom web portal.
- Existing bot users: If you record Zoom meetings with the bot today, your team moves to RTMS by default.
- Sign in to Zoom: Sign in to the Zoom web portal as a Zoom admin.
- Open Zoom Apps settings: Select Account Management, select Account Settings, and then select the Zoom Apps tab.
- Turn on app access to meeting content: Turn on Share realtime meeting content with apps.
- Limit the setting to specific people (optional): To limit RTMS to certain people, select User Management, select Users or Groups, and follow the same steps for the user or group.
- Start the app automatically (optional): In Auto-start apps that access shared realtime meeting content, select Choose an app to auto-start, select the Conversation Intelligence app, and set Auto-start status to On.
Things to Note: This option appears only after you turn on Share realtime meeting content with apps in Step 3.
Zoom reference: Host and admin tools and controls .
You have successfully configured the Zoom connection when:
- Share realtime meeting content with apps shows as on in your Zoom Account Settings.
- In a test meeting, no recording bot appears in the participant list, and the Conversation Intelligence app appears in Zoom's Active Apps Notifier.
- Zoom shows participants a disclosure message that meeting content is being shared with an app.
- After the test call ends, the recording appears in Activity > Conversation Intelligence within a few minutes.
- Host approval depends on Zoom settings: Depending on each host's Zoom settings, the host either approves the app or the app is allowed automatically. For externally hosted meetings, host approval is needed, and a host who joins late may never see the request.
- Continuous streaming: Streaming stops when the app owner leaves the meeting, unless the continuous streaming setting is on for your Zoom account.
- If your security team restricts third-party apps: Use API ingestion instead. It imports Zoom's cloud recording after the meeting ends, but it does not support real-time features or externally hosted meetings. See Connect Conversation Intelligence to Zoom: Overview [link when published].
Avoid: Changing Zoom auto-start or Always Allow in My Meetings settings unless this guide tells you to. In testing, several users' auto-start settings caused multiple approval requests to the host.
