The
Automation Rule Logs track attempted automation activity. So, as soon as your rule is turned on and begins to run, you can view the activity log and check the progress.
You can view Automation Rule Logs for all of your
Automation Rules or filtered to a single Automation Rule.
In this article, you will learn about the Automation Rule Logs, including:
You can access Automation Rule Logs from one of the following locations:
- Automation Rules Settings - View Rule Logs: Takes you to the complete, unfiltered view of Automation Rule Logs.
- Edit an Automation Rule Page - Logs: Below the Rule Name, you will see the Logs row. The row contains a blue View Logs link that will take you to the Automation Rule Logs filtered to that specific rule.
From the Automation Rule Logs page, you can filter logs by the status of their occurrence, as well as get a complete breakdown of the activity that occurred.
Automation log filters allow you to view your list of completed Automation Rule Logs. You have two filtering options:
Status
Filter by the status of the rule to see which rules were completed or if any errors occurred:
- All: To view all of the automation activity that has occurred.
- Success: To view only the successful automation activities.
- Failure: To view only the failed automation activities. Failed activities will appear in red font with a notification icon. When an activity displays as Failed, hover your mouse over the Event status to see the reason the activity failed. This way you can address the failure and correct it in Salesloft (or in Salesforce if the trigger failed on that end). If you experience any technical issues or sync errors, check out our Automation Rule Troubleshooting article.
Date
The date filter allows you to filter by the date that the rule occurred. The following time frames are available in the date filter:
- Today
- Last 2 days
- Last 7 days
- Last 14 days
- Last 30 days
- Last 60 days
- Last 90 days
- All Time
- Custom Time Range
Rule
Filter by the name of the rule. This way you can quickly see whether a rule has been successful. If the rule has failed you can troubleshoot to correct the issue.
The Automation Rule Logs allow you to search automation rule logs by log ID or Object ID (unique ID of the Person or Account in Salesloft or unique ID of the Contact, Lead, Opportunity in CRM).
Things to Note: System will only find logs by full ID and does not support search by partial match. The search bar is above the right corner of the Automation Rule Log tab. Click in the search bar and enter the ID to perform a search.
The Automation Rule Log shows a table that contains the following information:
- Log File : Detailed information on what occurred with the Automation Rule.
- Log ID Number: The number associated to each automation rule log as a unique identifier. By hovering over the log ID, you can select to copy the log ID. This can be helpful for sharing the log ID between colleagues, so that they can find required logs using new search function.
- Timestamp: When the automation rule occurred.
- Automation Rule: The Automation Rule Name given to each Automation Rule that is created. This lets you know which rule was fired.
- Trigger : The event which triggered the action
- Action: The event that is slated to occur when an automation rule is triggered.
- Status: State of the Automation rule, whether is was a success or fail.
- Error: Surfaces the error message for the failed actions. Hovering over error column will show the full error text in the popover
- Trigger Object ID: Shows the type and ID of the record, which triggered automation rule. The “Filter“ option next to the Trigger Object ID will filter out all logs related to the same object (Person, Account, Contact in CRM, Lead in CRM, Opportunity).
- Things to Note: If the record which triggered the automation rule and record created or updated as a result of automation rule are different, this column will only show ID of the triggering record. For example, When Person changes → Remove Account from all cadences, or When Contact is not found in Salesloft → Create Person.
- Trigger Object ID column is only populated for the logs starting from January, 1st, 2022. Automation rule logs before January, 1st, 2022 will show “-“ in this column.
- Event Group: ID number that groups actions that occurred from the same rule
Things to Note: You may need to scroll to the left or right in the table to view column information.
