For any recipients using the Mail app on iOS15, they will now have the option to enable
Apple’s Mail Privacy Protection feature.
When enabled, all remote content downloaded by Mail will be routed through multiple proxy servers, preventing the sender from learning your IP address. Rather than share your IP address, which can allow the email sender to learn your location, Apple’s proxy network will randomly assign an IP address that corresponds only to the region your device is in. As a result, email senders will only receive generic information rather than information about your behavior.
User’s will have 2 options to enable under this new privacy feature:
- Hide IP address
- Block All Remote Content (disabled by default)
Similar to how Google proxies images, when Mail Privacy Protection’s “hide IP address” is enabled on Apple Mail, open and clicks will still track. However, we will no longer have visibility into the location or device user for the open. For click tracking, we will still capture the device however the location will not be accurate similar to the open.
By default
Block all remote content will be disabled, however if the user enables this setting then they will see a banner at top of the email
Message contains unloaded images and an option to
Load all images. The open will only track when the recipient allows the images to load – similar to how Outlook does not load images by default from senders outside their organization.
Things to Note: Salesloft has identified and suppressed bot/fake opens generated by Apple’s Mail Protection Privacy from our platform.
