Lead or Contact data aligns to the Salesloft Person fields. The Lead or Contact data transfers to and from Salesloft during an import from your CRM into Salesloft and during a sync update. But before any of these data transfers can take place, the Salesloft Person fields need to be mapped to the appropriate CRM Lead or Contact fields.
Any Salesloft admin or user with field configuration permissions can complete the Person field configuration. To access the Person field configuration, select your initials in the upper right corner of Salesloft and click Settings. Once you're inside the setting page, select the Field Configuration Settings found under the Data Settings.
You will complete your Person field configuration from the Person Fields tab. Here you can edit field mapping preferences and add custom fields to map to default fields and CRM fields that do not exist in Salesloft.
Each Person field has CRM Lead and Salesforce Contact columns. After you map fields, the CRM column will show the CRM field API name, field type, and sync direction that was selected for the mapped Salesloft field.

In this article, you will learn all about Person field configuration between Salesloft and your CRM, including:
Psst, new to Salesloft and want to make mapping easier? Start by Auto-Mapping Standard Salesforce Fields or Auto-Mapping Standard Dynamics Fields!
Now the real fun begins. Let’s map those fields!
Things to Note: Don't know which fields to map? Check out our Recommended Salesforce Fields or Recommended Dynamics Fields guide for ideas to get started.
Person and Account field mapping uses the same process with a slightly different layout.
Follow the instructions below to map your fields. For this example, we will map the First Name Person to both the Lead and Contact fields:
- Connect: Establish a connection between Salesloft and either your primary CRM account or a Salesforce Sandbox.
- Navigate: Within Salesloft, go to Field Configuration Settings, which you'll find under your Settings.
- Locate First Name: In the Person Fields tab, carefully scroll through the list of Salesloft Person Field Names until you find First Name.
- Create Custom Field (If Necessary): If you don't see First Name in the list, you will need to create a custom field for it.
- Open Edit Options: Once you've located the First Name field, click on the ellipses (usually three dots) on that line.
- Select Edit Field: From the dropdown menu that appears, choose Edit Field.
- Map to CRM Lead: Under the CRM Lead section, check the box labeled Map to CRM Lead.
- (Optional) Make Field Required for Leads: If you want the First Name field to be mandatory when creating new Leads, check the box next to Make field required for Person creation.
- Select CRM Lead Field Name: Use the dropdown menu to choose the corresponding CRM Lead Field Name. Once you select a field, the CRM Lead API Name and Field Type will automatically fill in.
- Choose Lead Mapping Direction: From the dropdown menu, select your desired mapping Direction for the CRM Lead field.
- Map to CRM Contact: Under the CRM Contact section, check the box labeled Map to CRM Contact.
- Select CRM Contact Field Name: Use the dropdown menu to choose the matching CRM Contact Field Name. After selection, the CRM Contact API Name and Field Type will populate automatically.
- Choose Contact Mapping Direction: From the dropdown menu, select your preferred mapping Direction for the CRM Contact field.
- Save Changes: Click the Save button to apply your settings for the First Name field.
- Repeat for Other Fields: If you have more fields you want to map, repeat steps 4 through 12 for each additional field. Remember to select the relevant CRM field and the desired sync direction for each one.

Figure 2: Edit Person Field Example
Salesloft Admins (or Roles with Manage Field Configuration permission) can designate additional fields as required for manual record creation (both in-app and via the Chrome Extension). To ensure data integrity, configure fallback values for required information. These values are automatically applied when records are created from external sources like third-party integrations or CSV imports, preventing missing data.
Things to note: Marking a field required only applies to manual record creation and does not apply to Create when Lofitng, importing from CRM, or Automation Rules.
To make a Salesloft Standard or Custom Person field required, navigate to Field Configuration Settings (under Settings), and within the Person Fields tab, select Edit Field for the desired field. Check the Make field required for Person creation box and click Save. Admins can reverse this at any time by unchecking the same box.
Additionally, admins can define a fallback value for required fields. If a record is created from an external source and the value for a required field is missing, this fallback value will be automatically applied. This ensures successful record creation, which is particularly important for customers who have automation rules in place to sync Leads and Contacts back to their CRM. Enter the fallback value in the Select default value field below the Make field required selection.
Figure 3: Make a Field Required
End User Experience: When
creating or updating a Person from the in-app or extension Person Creation form, all fields marked as required by an Administrator will be clearly indicated. Users will be unable to save a new Person record if any required fields are left unpopulated, ensuring that all mandatory information is provided. You can learn more in the Create a Person and Link Person to CRM articles.
Figure 4: Required Fields when Creating a Person
The Salesloft person fields contain six Cadence-specific fields. Mapping these fields allows your team to view Salesloft Cadence information inside of your CRM. Based on this data, managers can use their CRM to report on the Cadence activities of each team member.
Salesloft Tip: The most recent Cadence-specific field data is not displayed on the Person record in Salesloft.
To map these fields, you or a CRM Admin will need to modify or create* custom fields in your CRM. For example, you may want to create a "Cadence ID" field on the lead record that will map to the Most Recent Cadence - Cadence ID Salesloft field.
The Cadence fields map to the following field types:
- Most Recent Cadence - Cadence ID: text field
- Most Recent Cadence - Cadence Name: text field
- Most Recent Cadence - Last Completed Step: number field
- Most Recent Cadence - Next Step: number field
- Most Recent Cadence - Next Step Due Date: date field
- Most Recent Cadence - Next Step Name: text field
* Things to Note: The Insight from Salesloft dashboard package creates certain fields in your Salesforce instance for you. If your team downloads Insight from Salesloft, you will not need to create the following Most Recent Cadence fields:
- Cadence Name
- Last Completed Steps
- Next Step Due Date
After your field mapping is complete, these fields will update when:
- A person is added to a Cadence
- A person is removed from a Cadence
- A step in a Cadence is completed on a person
- A person completes all steps in a Cadence
Things to Note: When a person is removed from a Cadence or completes a Cadence, the following field values will be cleared out automatically:
- Most Recent Cadence - Next Step
- Most Recent Cadence - Next Step Due Date
- Most Recent Cadence - Next Step Name
Contact Restrictions include "Do Not Message" options available from Salesloft. By syncing these contact restrictions with fields in your CRM, you ensure that your CRM remains your source of truth.
This is why Salesloft has included Do No Message Field on the Person level in your Salesloft Field Configuration. The fields include the following options:
- Do Not Call
- Do Not Contact
- Do Not Email
- Do Not Message
If you're curious why you may want to use a specific contact restriction, versus a general "Do Not Contact," allow us to provide a use case for restricting text messaging. Texting is heavily regulated and is opt-in only. If a Person opts out of a text message, you may still email them or call them, but messaging will be disabled with Salesloft's Do Not Message contact restriction.
To pull a report of all of the People records that are not connected to your CRM, you can map the Lead and Contact IDs to a Salesloft field. Use the following chart to map the field(s):
| Person Field Name | CRM Lead Field Name | CRM Contact Field Name | Field Type | Description |
|---|
| SFDC Person ID | Lead ID | Contact ID | ID | CRM's unique identifier for Leads and Contacts. Configuring this field with Salesloft can be helpful when exporting, manipulating data, and determining which records have a linked record in your CRM. Lead ID's start with "OOQ", Contact ID's start with "003". |
The standardized, "out-of-the-box" field names that exist for all Salesloft teams are known as default fields. However, we at Salesloft know that your team's use case may go beyond our default field names. So, Salesloft allows team admins to create their own custom fields in order to map and display record data.
You can create custom fields for each Lead or Contact field and set them to be mapped to and from Salesforce.
Things to Note: Any custom fields that are created can be used as dynamic fields.
To create a custom field, follow the instructions listed below:
- Navigate to the right side of your screen, and click the + Add Custom Field button.
- The Create Custom Field box will appear. Fill in the name of your custom field in the Salesloft Field Name text box.
- Things to Note: To create a custom field in Salesloft, the name must meet the following criteria:
- Field only accepts use A-Z characters, dashes, underscores, and numbers 0-9
- Name cannot start with a dash, underscore, or digit (must start with letter)
- Select the Salesloft Field Type from the dropdown menu. You may select one of the following options:
- Date: Adds a date picker field on the Salesloft Person. This means you can select a calendar date when updating the Salesloft field. If the field is mapped to Salesforce, it can be mapped to similar date fields (aka date fields that mimic the date format mm/dd/yyyy).
- Text: Add a text field to update Person information. If the field is mapped to Salesforce, whatever information that is entered in the text field will update to your CRM.
- Select the Active Picklist Options.
- Things to Note: At least one value must be active.
- Select your preference for CRM Lead by checking the box next to Map to CRM Lead.
- Pick your CRM Lead Field Name. Once the Field Name is selected, the CRM API Name and Field Type will auto populate.
- Select your preferred Mapping Direction.
- Click Save.
- Once you have added the custom field, the field will appear in the Person fields list with an asterisk next to the field name.
Figure 5: Create Custom Fields
Custom field pick list on a Person allow users to select from a list of picklist options in Salesloft that have the same options as their CRM. Pick lists let reps easily edit information about a Person. Having these type of fields available also grants managers and admins confidence that your reps are updating information accurately.
Things to Note:
- Admins, please make sure when you are mapping to a pick list field in your CRM that the options are the same in both systems. Otherwise, you will see sync errors related to the pick lists being out of sync.
- You are able to utilize any custom picklist fields in an Automation Rule in the Criteria or Action fields. In order to utilize records to contain no value/-None-, you can select "Is Null" for the operation.
To learn more about picklist, check out our Create a Picklist article.
The Person Details panel found on the Person Profile Page includes fields that contain data in the Salesloft default order. Fields that do not contain data are separated by the Blank Fields section.
The Field Layout option allows you to set the order and visibility of fields inside the Person Details. By customizing where fields appear in the
Person Details on the Person’s Profile page, your team will be able to view the most important information all in one panel.
To reorder fields, go to your
Settings. Navigate to
Field Configuration, select
Person Fields, and then click
Field Layout.
Figure 6: Person Field Configuration Field Layout
In the Field Layout tab, you can view all fields and their numerical order in the Order column. Users have several options to change this order:
- Search for fields by name. This can help you quickly find a field that you would like to move to the top or last item in your list.
- Drag and drop the field rows to automatically change the number in the Order column.
- Set the new field’s position manually by editing its number directly in the Order column.
- Only numbers in the current field range are available. For example, if there are five fields, users cannot set a value greater than 5 and less than 1.
- Use the action menu, which is available on the right end of every row:
- Move to Top/Move to Bottom shifts the row to the first/last position in the list.
- Move Up/Move Down shifts the row by one position up or down respectively.
Figure 7: Person Field Configuration Reorder Fields
You can manage which fields are visible via toggle. By default, all custom fields are visible. If you do not wish to see a field, turn the toggle off.
Things to Note:
- Salesloft standard fields are always visible, and the toggle for them is always set to the on position and disabled.
- If you do not wish to view a standard field, reorder the field list so the field is listed towards the bottom of the details.
- Changing field visibility does not affect the order number. It hides the picked field from the UI in the Person details and Account Details tiles.
Figure 8: Person Field Configuration Enable Field Visibility
Let's say your team relies on a Phone field. You can take the following steps to reorder the field and set the visibility:
- As an admin, go to your Field Configuration Settings. In the Person Fields tab, select Field Layout.
- Search or scroll to find the Phone field you would like to move.
- Pick the order of the field by grabbing the field on the left hand side, or entering a number in the Order box.
- To save all changes made on the Field Layout tab, hit Publish. The new layout will be saved and applied for all team members. To restore the default field order, tap Reset Layout.
Figure 9: Person Field Configuration Reorder Fields by drag and drop Example
Once your Person Field Layout has been changed, you can confirm the new layout on any Person Profile Page.
Things to Note: Since you have ordered and selected the exact fields your team will view, users will see all field types as configured in the Field Layout. After you publish a field layout, users will no longer see the options to View or Hide Blank fields option on the Person Profile Page.
