Segments allow you to easily filter your Contacts and Accounts based on attributes so you can provide the best buying experience for your prospects. You can build Static Segments (Segments that don't change) and Dynamic Segments (Segments which are constantly updated as contact intel changes.)
In this article, we’ll cover:
Creating a Static Segment
To create a Static Segment:
1. Navigate to the Visitors > Contacts > All contacts and check off the contacts you'd like to add into a Segment.
2. After selecting your contacts, click Save static segment.

3. Choose wether you'd like to Create a new static segment and name your segment, or add to an existing segment and choose your segment from the drop down.

4. After making your selection, select Create new segment. Your new segment will now be listed in Visitors > Segments.

To create a Dynamic Segment:
1. Navigate to Visitors > Segments and click on Create segment in the upper right corner to begin creating a segment.

2. You will be prompted to name your segment. Once you’ve named it, click create.

3. Dynamic Segments can be comprised of contact attributes, account attributes, or a mix of both. Open the drop down menu on the left hand side to select the attributes you would like to use to create your segment. You can also select attributes from the left hand side of the screen.

4. Use the Add condition button to add a second condition. Both conditions must be met to be included in the segment.

5. If you want to create another group of conditions, click the Add condition group button. Creating a condition group will make it so that contacts must meet the conditions in either one condition group or the other to be included in the segment.

6. Once you have finished creating your condition groups, click the Publish button in the top right corner to publish your segment. Click the arrow next to the publish button to open a drop down menu. From here you can:
- Save your segment
- Save as (name and save your segment)
- Archive your segment
- Delete your segment.

You can also use Event Conditions while building a segment. Select an event from the Event list in the drop down menu or from the Event section on the left side of the screen.
Here you can see a segment that contains an Account attribute, a Contact attribute, and an Event condition.

The Segments landing page is where you can manage the segments you have created. Use the search bar at the top of the screen to search for a specific segment. The Import list button allows you to import a list of contacts into Drift via CSV, Marketo, Hubspot, or Pardot, that can be used to create a segment.
Click on the Clone icon to clone your segment.

Clicking on the more actions button gives you the following options:
- Edit your segment (you can also click on the segment name to edit it.)
- Archive your segment
- Delete your segment

You can also bulk archive or delete segments by clicking on the checkbox next to the segment name.
