We support Versions 3 and 4 of the Pardot to Salesforce connector.
Note: Drift does not support authentication with Pardot Sandboxes at this time.
Connecting the Integration Using an SSO User
1. In Pardot: Make sure you have a Pardot SSO Admin User. If you don’t have a Pardot SSO Admin User, just follow Salesforce’s user migration guide.

2. In Salesforce: Find your Business Unit ID. See this Salesforce help doc for more information on finding your Business Unit ID.
- Click Setup
- Enter "Business Unit Setup" in the Quick Find box
- Click "Business Unit ID". Your Business Unit ID will be next to “Business Unit Name” as in the screenshot below

3. In Drift: Head over to the Pardot settings page within Drift and click “Disconnect Pardot” if you are currently connected using our old authentication method. If you are connecting for the first time please just click into the Pardot integration.
4 In Drift: Then, connect using the “Log in with Salesforce” option using your Business Unit Id and Pardot SSO Admin User.

5. Once you’re connected to Pardot, you’re all set!
Customizing the Pardot Integration
You can now select which attributes you'd like to map from Drift into Pardot and also which data you'd like to sync!
Synced Pardot Data
From the Pardot configuration page, click Synced Pardot Data. You'll be brought to a screen with several options.

From here, you'll be able to choose to sync prospects into Pardot with or without a Minimum CQL score and assign a lead owner.
For the assignment of lead owner, we set the owner based on who books a meeting with a prospect, who was routed into a given conversation, or who closes the conversation, in that order.
If you choose to assign a lead owner, click Show advanced settings to select the field in Pardot to which we map that value. If no field is selected we will not assign a lead owner in Pardot.
You can also Identify Drift visitors with the Pardot cookie so that when a contact in Pardot engages with a Playbook or message, their email will be known in the conversation view!
Note!
When selecting a field for Lead Owner in Pardot please note that the default "Assigned User" field in Pardot is a read only field that is shared between Salesforce and Pardot and is not useable by Drift. We recommend sending that data to a custom field in Pardot and using automation within Pardot to assign lead owner based on that information. Check out this Pardot help doc for more information on creating custom fields in Pardot.
Mapped Attributes
You can also select which Drift or custom attributes you'd like to map into Pardot.
Note: Drift supports mapping to Text, Text Area, Number, and Date, fields in Pardot at this time. We do not support fields with multiple options like multi-select, radio, checkbox, or dropdowns.
From the Pardot configuration page, click Mapped Pardot Attributes. From there, you can select your attributes in Drift and the field you'd like to map them to within Pardot. Having the default value box checked will allow you to send a default value to Pardot if the value in Drift you are sending is blank.

For more on creating custom attributes, click here. If you prefer to import attributes, read this doc.
The Event Log
If you ever run into issues where prospects don't seem to be syncing, or to check on events and activities added to prospects, you can check the event log.
From the Pardot configuration page, click Pardot Event Log. You'll see a log that you can manipulate by custom time periods and view All Activity, Errors, etc.
Note: It is expected that you will see a warning in your event log when Drift check for an existing lead, can't find the lead and decides to make a new one.
An Event Log with No Activity
Here's the empty state event log. Change the timeframe to see more events!

An Event Log with Activity:

On the left, you'll see the timestamp of the activity. This should correspond to the time a conversation was closed.
On the right, you'll see Successfully created or Successfully updated along with the email of the prospect and the action taken.
Any errors will appear in red text while warnings will appear in yellow text. Below is an example of a warning in the event log.
