Anytime a contact has a new conversation in Drift, that will be logged as an activity on the lead in Marketo. To start sending this activity, you'll first need to create a Custom Activity within Marketo and provide its ID.
Keep in mind: You must follow these instructions exactly in regards to Display Name and API Name for this feature to function properly. Step 1 - In Marketo, click "
admin" > "
marketo custom activities" > "
new custom activity". For Display Name type in "
New Drift Conversation". For the Api Name type in "
newDriftConversation_c". For the description type "
A new conversation was started in Drift" and then click "
next".
NOTE: Display Name and API Name must match exactly what is pictured below. Display Name = New Drift Conversation, API Name = newDriftConversation_c
Step 2 - Add a filter and a trigger
Note filters are past tense and triggers are present tense. We suggest adding the filter "
New Drift Conversation Started" and the trigger "
New Drift Conversation". Then click "
next".

Step 3 - This step needs to be followed exactly as pictured to function properly
Data type = string
Name = conversationUrl
API Name = (This will autocomplete) ConversationUrl
Description = The URL to the conversation within Drift
Click "
submit"

Step 4 - Approve the activity in Marketo by clicking "custom activity actions" > "approve activity"

Step 5 - in Drift navigate to
Settings >
Integrations >
Marketo >
Synced Marketo Data -> You will see a box to add the activities (Add screenshot of the box in the sync settings page for activity) -> Choose +Add Drift Activity -> Match up the Drift activity to the Marketo activity using the drop down menu.

Choose "Sync Data"

Add Drift Activities with the
+ Add Drift Activity button. Match up the Drift activity to the Marketo activity using the dropdown menus:

Step 6 - Make sure the conversation transcript checkbox is ticked so transcripts are synced on the activity.

Step 7 - Run a test conversation in Drift (This approves the activity in Marketo) > look up that email (in quick find) in the Marketo database > click the contact > at the top navigate away from info and choose activity log > look for new drift conversation like this:
Click on that and you should see data populate.
Note: It is expected that the entire custom activity will not populate during a preview flow bot test. The full activity only appears on a live Playbook test.
