Google Vertex AI introduces advanced machine learning and generative AI capabilities that enhance chatbot functionality, allowing for more accurate responses, improved understanding of complex queries, and continuous learning from interactions. Bionic Chatbots is transitioning to a new content library powered by AI models available via Vertex AI, which will replace the existing Bionic Chatbot content library and serve as the foundation for generating responses.
This FAQ addresses how the integration will improve chatbot performance, streamline customer support, and ensure a seamless user experience.
What is Google Vertex AI, and why is Bionic Chatbots integrating with it?
Vertex AI, provided by Google, is a comprehensive AI platform designed to help organizations build, deploy, and manage machine learning and generative AI models at scale. It offers advanced capabilities such as model training, deployment, prediction, and the integration of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems.
Bionic Chatbots is transitioning to a new content library powered by models available via Vertex AI, replacing the existing Bionic Chatbot content library and generating responses from it.
All Bionic Chatbot customers will have access to the new content library by the end of February 2025.
What happens with the training I already did on Bionic Chatbots?
Scenarios and training workflows functionalities will remain unaffected during this transition. Any training that has been performed will persist after Vertex AI is implemented.
Do I need to re-ingest my content again?
Yes. Vertex AI has proven to be very effective at selecting the most relevant source links from a website. We recommend ingesting your whole website.
After the site has been ingested, you will want to test the bot for content accuracy. If you find that Bionic Chatbots with Google Vertex uses undesired content, you can guide the bot to use specific pages by selecting the “Use a different source” option in the feedback loop. For ease of ingestion, we have added a migration wizard to guide you through the re-ingestion process as seen below.

What if there is content that I never want to reference?
This content can be added as exclusions.
You have the ability to exclude individual pages, parts of a site, an entire domain, or exact matches, e.g. www.mysite.com/faq*.
You can set exclusions during the initial ingestion or later by using the “Add exclusion” option in the “Add content” button.
Will the content be available right after it’s added into the content library?
No, after your content is added you will need to verify your domain in the Google Search Console so we can perform advanced indexing of your website. Please note that the content can take up to 12 hours to be fully available.
How can I do the domain verification?
The instructions to verify your domain are available in the Verify the Domain for Drift with Vertex AI article.
If you have any issues, please contact support.
Are there any changes to the UI?
The content library has been redesigned to align with Vertex capabilities. The new UI allows you to add and remove content and search individual pages.

Will there be any downtime during the migration?
The migration is designed to be seamless, with no expected downtime for your Bionic Chatbot operations.
Does Vertex AI support multi-language?
This capability does not exist today for Bionic Chatbots, but this feature is in early EAP. Reach out to your CSM/PSC if you're interested in being added to the program.
What does this change mean in terms of data privacy?
Data that you transfer to Salesloft to enable us to provide Bionic Chatbot to you, including data that your website visitors enter as prompts into Bionic Chatbot deployed on your website, will be processed using models made available through Google Vertex AI. Since this dataset may include personal data that we process on your behalf as a data processor (as such term is defined by the GDPR and/or your data protection agreement with us), Google is considered a Salesloft sub-processor of such personal data. We have a data processing agreement in place with Google that is protective of such personal data, inclusive of cross-border personal-data transfer mechanisms, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), UK IDTA, UK Addendum to the EU SCCs, and/or the Data Privacy Framework. For more information, please refer to the Salesloft+Drift Sub-processors List and the 2024 AI Sub-processor Update FAQ published in the Salesloft+Drift Trust Portal.
Further, the links below contain additional information (published by Google) regarding Vertex AI:
Does verifying my domain give Drift, Salesloft, or Vertex complete access to my entire website and all of it's data?
No. The domain verification process only confirms your ownership or management of the domain you wish to ingest.
What data can Drift, Salesloft, or Vertex access after I approve the association of my domain?
After association is approved, Drift can only access the specific sources that you add to your content library.
Once my account migrates to Bionic Chatbot using Google Vertex, can I see the content I had in the previous content library?
Yes, for a limited time you’ll have access to view your previous content library for reference. This access will be removed by 4/25/2025.
Are there any limitations in the new content library?
The new content library is designed for efficient ingestion of large amounts of content. It's recommended to add website content using URL patterns (e.g. salesloft.com/ or salesloft.example.com) to include all relevant pages. While individual URL's can be added, there is a limit of 500. For optimal performance and complete content inclusion, using URL patterns is strongly advised.
Do I need to migrate to Vertex if I use AI Suggested Replies?
Yes, AI suggested Replies is now also powered by Vertex AI, so the content also needs to be migrated to the new content library.
